Bali temple and Culture

Bali is renowned worldwide for its magnificent beaches, amazing rice terraces, picturesque temples, arts and crafts, and for the colorful Hindu-Buddhist culture of the Balinese people. For the deeply religious Balinese, every aspect of life is governed by ancient rituals, and shrines with offerings to the gods are seen everywhere throughout the island. Bali is both a paradise and a playground; home to a whole host of activities, adventures, stories and magical secrets just waiting to be explored. It is not only for sustenance of the body, but also for the mind and spirit. Bali is a heavenly destination for holidays.

ITNERARY

Day 01: South Bali – Ubud [No Meals]

Pick up from your hotel in the south of Bali, depart to Ubud through Batubulan village which is famous of Stone carving where you will see stone carving shops lining on the road, it is also known with their Barong Dance performance. It describes the eternal struggle between good (Barong) and evil (Rangda) and ends with a scene where the “Kris dancers fall into a trance an try to kill Rangda. After witnessing the Barong dance performance, continue driving to Singapadu to visit a Balinese traditional home with its traditional compound. Drive up to Batuan visit the local temple then to Mas, the handicraft village the heading to Ubud, a home of most famous artists. Then continue to Ubud visit Arma Museum and Goa Gajah, the Elephant Cave, built in the 11th century, a fantastically carved entrance depicts entangling leaves, rocks, animal, ocean waves and demonic human shapes running from the gaping mouth. The trip then continues to visit Gunung Kawi, Bali’s largest ancient monument is located. It consists of 10 rock-cut candi (shrines) – memorials cut out the rock face in imitation of actual statues and stand in 7m-high sheltered niches cut into the sheer cliff face. (There will be lots of walk up and down the steps needed from parking to Gunung Kawi temple. So for client who has difficulties in walking would not recommend to visit this part).Afterward, we proceed to Ubud for check in to the hotel. Lunch & dinner at own arrangement.

Day 02: Ubud – Candidasa [B/-/-]

Breakfast at Hotel. Today we start the morning with a short walk through the rice field near Ubud. Enjoy the fresh walk on the walking path with the beautiful scenery and peaceful surrounding. We might meet local farmer busy harvesting, planting on his field or might be even just checking the watering to their field. The local guide will share with you about Subak, traditional irrigation system which have been controlling the watering system work properly.

Afterward, we proceed driving eastern coast to Candidasa village with some possibility stop on the way such as in Klungkung we visit Kerta Gosa, the Hall of Justice, built in 18th century, a beautifully laid out within a moat and provides an exquisite example of the Klungkung style of painting and architecture which can be seen in their ceiling murals. Continue to Kusamba, the fishermen village that also engages in the salt making where you will also see colorful outrigger lined up along the black sand shores. The coastal road with full view to Nusa Penida will lead us to Goa Lawah, the Bat Cave. This cave, whose walls vibrate with thousands of bats, is considered holy, and a temple and surrounding shrines protect the entrance. Lastly we visit Tenganan, an original Balinese village, a stronghold of ancient traditions. You can see the local women weave the famous “flaming” cloth, kamben geringsing, which supposedly has the power of immunize the wearer against evil. Proceed to Candidasa for check in at the hotel. Lunch & dinner at own arrangement.

Day 03: Candidasa – Lovina [B/L/D]

Breakfast at HotelWe drive up to the North to Lovina village via Kintamani. Through the rice field view, salak (snake fruit) plantation and beautiful panorama of Putung village we reach Besakih temple, located on the slope on the Mt. Agung, the highest mountain on Bali. This temple is known as a mother temple of Bali as it houses ancestral shrines for all Hindu Balinese and a complex of nearly 24 temples in the surrounding. Via Kintamani, mountain resort area, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant while enjoy the breathtaking view to the Mt. Batur with its Crater Lake Batur.

After lunch we then continue our drive to Lovina with final stop visit at a local temple on the way named Beji Tempel in Singaraja, known as a Subak temple, refers to the organization for water supply or Balinese traditional irrigation system. We then proceed to Lovina then directly check in at the hotel. Lunch at local restaurant and dinner at the hotel.

Dinner & overnight at THE LOVINA (Superior Garden Villa)

Day 04: Lovina – South Bali  [B/-/-]

Breakfast at Hotel. We return to the south via Bedugul, another mountain resort with very cool and green landscape surrounding on the western side of Bali. There will be some possibility stop for visit on the way such as at Git Git, to visit the highest water fall (there will be lots of walk up and down the steps needed. So for client who has difficulties in walking would not recommend to visit this part).  Then continue drive we past the twin lake Buyan and Tamblingan we will atop again to visit the Ulun Danu temple on the lake side of Lake Beratan. We have the possibility stop at a local fruit and spices market in Candikuning market where local fruits including Strawberry, vegetable and local flowers from roses and orchid including Balinese spices could be found in this traditional market.  We then visit Taman Ayun, the Royal Family temple and Tanah Lot, the temple build on the rock with the Indian Ocean back group famous with the most spectacular sunset. (Sunset will be subject to weather permitted), before returning to your hotel in the south.
