ITINERARY

Day 01: Pangkalanbun – Tanjung putting  [-/L/-]

Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport, meet and greet by our local guide then transfer to Kumai for boat transfer. The boat is a traditional Klotok wooden river boat about 10m by 2m with a roof which forms the upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides by. The guide’s team includes the boatman, a cook and expert guide. Lunch is served on the way to Tanjung Harapan, a rehabilitation center for orphaned orangutans, 2 hours away from Kumai. Here the playful and friendly baby orangutans are taught the first stages in fending themselves in the jungle (Subject on availability). In the peaceful afternoon we will slowly explore the quite river by the klotok while observe the monkeys along the riverside. Lunch will be served on board. Dinner at own arrangement. Day 02: Orangutan exploration at camp leakey (10 km/06 hrs) [B/L/-]

Breakfast will be served in the Lodge. After breakfast, travel up river for about 2 hours boating and then up a side creek to Camp Leakey where the older orangutans are reintroduced into the rain forest. En route stop at Pondok Tanguy, the rehabilitation center for the new ex-captive orangutans. At Camp Leakey you will have opportunity to trek into the rain forest with your expert guide and the forestry rangers to appreciate the flora as well as sighting wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. Lunch provided on boat. Afternoon visit the feeding station to see rehabilitate orangutans are given additional foods. Back to the lodge for overnight. Lunch will be served on board. Dinner at own arrangement.

Day 03: Rimba lodge – Banjarmasin [B/-/-]

Breakfast will be served in the Lodge. In the morning cruising back to Kumai harbor approximately 3 hours, then proceed to the airport to catch your flight to Banjarmasin then directly transfer to the hotel for check in. In the afternoon continue walk to the nearby river and explore the town from other side, by small canoe along the canal. You may have good chance to see and observe the real local life from their back door. Afterwards back to the hotel and the rest of the day is free at own leisure. Lunch and dinner at own arrangement.

Day 04: Banjarmasin – floating market – airport  [B/-/-]

Breakfast will be served in the hotel. Early morning at 05:00, we leave to the boat jetty to visit the floating market, at Lok Baitan. This market seems busier and has more visited by sellers and buyer compare to the one at Barito river. Stroll around the market and find out the way of the local trader selling their goods on the boat or canoe, after exploring the market then proceed to Kembang island, for  about 45 minutes ride from the floating market. Looking through the name of the island is “Kembang Island” which is means the island of flowers, but unfortunately we will find difficulties to find the flowers on the island. People mostly come to this island for praying and giving offering to a small temple with white monkey statue. A big number of Long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicular) inhabits this island.

Afterwards ride back to the hotel for breakfast and enjoy the rest of the day free at your own leisure until departure time to the Airport to catch your flight to the next destination.

The check-out time standard policy of the hotel is 12:00 hrs. Should there be any day use of room requested until 18:00hrs, it will be subject to the availability upon booking with additional cost.
