Things To Do in Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta is the cultural hub of Indonesia and you will quickly get to understand why, It is a home to astonishing temples as Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, also listed as UNESCO heritage site, and Prambanan, a complex of Hindus temples, with its carvings onto its walls, telling the Ramayana story. Besides its priceless architecture monuments, the atmosphere of Yogyakarta is partly due to the fact that the Sultan of Yogyakarta empowers its inhabitants, being supportive and attracting Indonesians from all over the archipelago, to experience the artistic and bustling life of the city. He’s a respected figure of Yogyakarta and still has an important impact on social life. We take you to the Keraton, the Sultan’s Palace; afterward we will have a closer look to its surrounding, still very active named Taman Sari, to enjoy the traditional handcrafts and Javanese daily life.

If you have ever dreamed to climb an active volcano, Merapi trekking is an experience you shouldn’t miss. We are used to talk about Yogyakarta as the cultural heart of Indonesia, forgetting it is also priceless for its natural hidden treasures or obvious one as for example the Merapi Mountain. This impressive volcano will stun you in many ways, from its massive perspective to its dense vegetation permitted by cowls lava and fertile ground. It has erupted many times in a powerful way, making the Merapi become a legendary piece of the surroundings. You will also enjoy the local legends about Merapi’s spirit and past eruptions, which happened to be very serious at some point so that its activity is well observed and follow by many volcanologists. We pick you up at your hotel (pick up area service) around 10.00 p.m. Then we drive you to Selo Village, located on the northern side of the volcano.

After preparation we start to climb at midnight and it is take you around six hours to climb to peak. Once at the top we enjoy the first rays of sun to warm us up, then after see the sunrise we go down for 5 hours. We can admire the city of Yogyakarta in the South and the Merbabu volcano on the eastern side. Then we will have a small rest enjoying the view from Pasar Bubar before climbing down to Selo. A vehicle will be waiting for us in Selo to drive us back to Yogyakarta in the afternoon.
