Flores Komodo Discovery Tour

Flores Komodo Discovery Tour is a combination Package to discover the indigenous Cultures and Tribes in Flores, Trekking to Kelimutu 3 color lakes to enjoy the stunning view of Sunrise over the lakes, visiting some Traditional Villages, Bena, Wogo and Luba, 3-hour trek to the remarkable Manggarai village of Wae Rebo; the last authentic traditional Manggarai village located about 1,100 meters above sea level, some 108 kilometres from Labuan Bajo nestled in the middle of panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest that is rich with vegetation. Visit Komodo Island to encounter the komodo dragon in its wild habitat in Rinca Island and enjoy the night on Liveaboard.

ITINERARY

Day 1   : Arrival Maumere – Visit Watublapi Weaving Village – Transfer to hotel (L/D)

Arrive at the airport in Ende or Maumere and welcome by your personal tour guide. Then, take a short drive to the village of Watublapi 18km from Maumere, known for its ikat fabrics, traditional songs and dances. Continue to Maumere and overnight Sylvia Hotel or Seaworld Club.

Day 2   : Maumere – Moni (B/L/D)

After breakfast check out from your hotel in Maumere and visit the local market. Here you have the opportunity to capture the everyday life of the inhabitants. The trade of dried fish of all kinds is particularly interesting and well-known here. Furthermore, a visit to the fishing village of Wuring, whose houses have all been built on stilts, is today. You will also visit the Ledalero Museum. On the way to Moni visit of a village of Lio in Ranggase. Particularly characteristic here is the cultic architecture of the houses. Day 3   : Moni – Kelimutu – Riung (B/L/D)

Visit the 3 colored lakes of Kelimutu in the early morning (around 4:30 am), drive to the starting point for the ascent to the Kelimutu. After an approximately 30 minutes walk, you reach the lookout point at Kelimutu at an altitude of 1.600m. From there you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the three different colored crater lakes. Local myths are entwined around the beautifully landscaped waters. Then descent and return to Moni for breakfast. Continue to the place end on the south coast of Flores. There is the former home of Soekarno, Indonesia’s first president, who spent several years in exile on Flores in the 1930s. En route visit the Nduaria fruit market and the Lio village Wolotopo. Continue via Nuabosi, from where you will enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the bay from the end, and Penggajawa Beach to Riung. Check-in and overnight at Pondok SVD in Riung.

Day 4   : Riung – Bajawa (B/L/D)

Early morning boat ride into the 17 islands of Riung Marine National Park with its coral gardens. First, it goes to the island Pulau Ontoloe, the largest island of the park. Countless fruit bats live in the extensive mangrove forests. Continue to another coral island with snow-white sandy beaches that invite you to sunbathe. In the morning you have the opportunity to explore the underwater world of this national park during a snorkeling tour on one of these islands. The coral reefs of the National Park are an intact ecosystem inhabited by colorful shoals of fish. In the afternoon you leave for Bajawa. On the way you will visit the hot springs of Mengeruda in Soa and the traditional village of Masu, which contains relics of the local megalithic culture. Then arrival in Bajawa and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Sanian Homestay Bajawa.

Day 5   : Bajawa – Ruteng (B/L/D)

Bajawa is located in the center of Ngadha megalithic culture. The surrounding area has traditional villages with mighty stone monuments, ancestral shrines and Adat houses. These villages are all in a beautiful volcanic mountain region. The most beautiful villages include Wogo, Luba and Bena. You will visit all three villages. Afterwards, your journey continues to Ruteng in the west of Flores. En route, stop by the picturesque Ranamese Lake for a short hike through the adjacent forest and along the lake shore. Arrival in Ruteng and check-in at Wisma Bunda Maria.

Day 6  : Ruteng  – Waerebo   (B/L/D)

Breakfast at the Hotel. Then drive to Cancar to see the spider rice field (lingko), walking up to the view point to take some pictures. afterwards drive to Waerebo and get ready for approximately 3-hour trek to the remarkable Manggarai village of Wae Rebo; the last authentic traditional Manggarai village located about 1,100 meters above sea level, some 108 kilometres from labuan Bajo nestled in the middle of panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest that is rich with vegetation. A challenging 7 kilometres trek uphill for adventurous and physically fit, the path can get quite slippery after the rain. During the trek you’ll be rewarded with amazing views of the sea below and perfectly triangular Mount Inerie, as well as diverse jungle foliage and frequent sightings of tropical butterflies, birds and monkeys.

Do not take any photos as you approach the village as a gesture of politeness, all visitors need to undergo a welcoming ceremony at the main drum house to placate the spirits before they can start snapping away. The structures of the Mbaru Niang, seven cone-shaped traditional houses built from bamboo, wood and grass are recognized by UNESCO as a form of living testament to Flores’ history. Immerse yourself in the daily lives of villagers in the village that was built some 100 years ago and discover the specific purpose of the five levels housing. Later in the afternoon, a short trek takes you to a waterfall. Marvel at the amazing natural beauty then return to the village for simple dinner provided. Sleeping mattresses provided for your stay.

Day 7  : Waerebo – Labuan Bajo    (B/L/D)

Enjoy breakfast at the village, then it is time to say goodbye. Start trekking downhill and take a short stop to visit a pristine beach. Rest and relax at the beach, lunch is provided. Afterwards, continue your journey back to Labuan Bajo on a chauffeured vehicle. Check-in at a hotel and the remainder of the evening is free at your own leisure with dinner provided.

Day 8  : Labuan Bajo – Rinca   (B/L/D)

Drive to Rinca Island in Komodo National Park. The drive to Rinca takes about 2.5 – 3 hours. Upon arrival in Rinca, the ship anchored in the bay Loh Buaya. There you can also register for the national park and pay the protection fees. A ranger escorts you into the hinterland during the 4 km trekking tour. During this hike you will see Komodo dragon, wild water buffalo, wild horses, deer, deer, rare bird species, monkeys and other animals. (Duration of the hike approx. 2 hours) Return to your ship and overnight on board. Your ship anchors in Loh Buaya.

Day 9   : Rinca – Komodo – Labuaan Bajo (B/L/D)

In the early morning, the ship leaves and drives to the northwestern main island of Komodo. Upon arrival in Komodo, you embark on another tour to the Komodo Dragon. A local ranger will accompany you over the approximately 2km long way to the ranger station Banunggulung, where the Komodo dragon were fed earlier. Return to Loh Liang, the starting point of your hike. Later in the day, the ship takes you to Pink Beach (Pantai Merah), which owes its name to the soft pink shimmering sand. Here you have the opportunity to snorkel and refresh yourself in the crystal clear waters of this beautiful bay. The offshore reef is also very popular with divers. Lunch on board and return to Labuan Bajo. Overnight in Labuan Bajo at Puri Sari or Bintang Flores.

Day 8   : Departure from Labuan Bajo (B)

After breakfast check-out from your hotel in Labuan Bajo. Optional flights in the afternoon are the possibility to visit the dripstone cave Batu Cermin. Then transfer to the airport of Labuan Bajo.
